WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND IN INTERIOR DESIGN?

I have 30 years of experience as an interior designer. I began my career as a design assistant right out of Colorado State University in 1985 and have continued to study, earning certifications in a variety of topics, such as

  • Flooring
  • Window coverings
  • Color concepts

The certifications are helpful, but what really makes a designer effective is experience. Customers get all the wisdom I’ve accumulated from my successes and even the mistakes I’ve made. They also get the peace of mind that comes with knowing the tradespeople I work with are people I’ve come to trust over many years.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT BEING AN INTERIOR DESIGNER?

I love learning the story behind the things that mean a lot to people and I enjoy incorporating those things into the design of the home. It’s a very intimate thing, having me in your home, and I appreciate the personal connection people have to their belongings. I love to hear the stories of where the things came from and what they mean.

For example, I worked with 100 families that were affected by the wildfires in Colorado Springs and I would plan an extra hour to hear the stories. I heard some things that were miraculous!

IS INTERIOR DESIGN ONLY FOR THE WEALTHY?

No, not at all. Most of my clients are middle-class people who place a high value on their homes, their biggest investment. People hire me because a good interior designer can prevent the homeowner from making very expensive mistakes, like ordering the wrong furniture or window coverings that don’t fit. I offer consulting services by the hour and my rates are affordable for most people.

WHAT MAKES PIKES PEAK INTERIORS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER COMPANIES?

Three things make Pikes Peak Interiors different.

First, I bring a lot of experience and trusted tradespeople to the job. You don’t have to worry about finding quality products & people for your project. I take care of that.

Second, I use products for your home that are either made here in Colorado Springs or somewhere in Colorado or are otherwise American-made. Some of the best home décor goods are made in America and since I am focused on quality, I make sure to use the best products available.

Third, the team I work with is as experienced as I am. The installers and fabricators working on your project know what they’re doing and help your project run smoothly.

WHY DO YOU ONLY USE HUNTER DOUGLAS FOR WINDOW COVERINGS?

Quality is very important to me and Hunter Douglas makes the most technically and artistically advanced products on the market. Not only do they have the best fabrics and colors, but they also have the best safety features. They are ahead of the curve in design innovation and win awards for their innovative designs.

Hunter Douglas is also an American company that is invested in Colorado. It’s important to me that companies I work with support our economy. Their window coverings are made in Broomfield, CO, where they have a large manufacturing facility, and in Utah. They pay their workers fairly and well.

Simply put, they make the best window coverings. I’m really good at what I do. I would rather deal with people who are really good at what they do.

WHY SHOULDN’T I BUY WINDOW COVERINGS ONLINE?

Window treatments are very expensive and if you make a mistake, it’s an expensive mistake. As a professional designer, I take responsibility for correct measurements and ensure that the selected covering will operate in a way that works well for that room. You can be assured that the window coverings will look good in your house and that they will fit.

Another reason to buy from a professional is that if something happens to the product you purchased from me, even if it’s 10 years old, I can usually get a part to repair it. That’s not the case with anything you get online or at a big box store.

The quality difference between what I sell and what a big box store sells is apples and oranges. Most of what they sell is made in China. What they sell is a temporary solution. What I create is something that will last in the window for many years.

ARE YOU GOING TO TRY TO REDESIGN MY HOME IN A WAY I DON'T LIKE? WILL YOU COME IN AND JUDGE MY MISTAKES?

These are probably the biggest misconceptions I hear. Clients think designers come in and change the house according to a trendy standard or what the designer likes, but that’s not what I do. I am interested in what you love about your home. I am focused in on what will make the room look good with the belongings you value. My goal is to help you make the home what you want it to be.

WHAT DO YOU PRIDE YOURSELF ON?

I am proud of the fact that people feel I do a good job of listening to them. I ask questions and listen carefully to find out what the client wants. Clients have a lot of good ideas! I construct a plan around those ideas and bring them to their full potential.
